Word Snatch Card GameFirst Impressions

In Word Snatch you Snatch Words…

That’s it…

A reimplementation of the classic game of Anagrams. It contains a slightly different tile distribution from a Scrabble set of tiles, reportedly based on analysis by WW2 code-breakers.

Word Snatch Game Play

Simple one this…

Players take turns flipping over a letter card from the top of a deck. When a player can see a word on the table they shout it out and they get those letters to score. They’re kept in front of that player face up still spelling out the claimed word.

Any time a word can be made using the words in the middle of the table a player can call it out and keep it in this way.

Now, someone can call out a longer word using a word a player has, plus letters from the middle of the table then they get to ‘steal’ that word from the player. Not just adding an ‘S’ on the end though!

So, if a player previously had “Cat” and an R comes out you could call “Cart” and take their Cat, plus the R from the middle.

When the deck runs out the player who has taken the most words wins.

Setup & Rulebook

Give them a big old shuffle!

The rulebook is tiny and does the job… sort of. We played it wrong the first time which is a fair mix of me not understanding the rules and the rulebook not being all that clear.

Components & Artwork

The cards are nice, but M/W etc are hard to tell apart. We had to keep turning the card over to see which way is up.

Ease of Teaching & Accessibility

Very simple, and will be great for families. Maybe the adults

Word Snatch Summary

Not a bad little game. Very simple and I would rather play something like Unspeakable Words but still…

It’s fun to spot a word first and even more fun when you can steal one from someone else. It’s REALLY cool when someone has a decent long word and I-N-G comes out 🙂

Will be a good game to play as a family and as my version is tiny and comes in a small tin, good for travelling.
