The Sock Game sees two teams try and find things in a sock first.
That’s pretty much the game.
Two teams compete to grab all the right items first — but it’s going to be tough to find what you’re looking for as each team has a large fluffy sock that has thirty tiny items stuffed inside it.
The Sock Game Game Play
Quite simply you spin the spinner and it will show an item.
One member of each team then dives their hand into a sock full of bits and pieces. The player that pulls out the correct object first wins a point for their team. Once a team hits 11 points and is ahead by 2, they win.
There are a few rules like you can only pull one thing out at a time and you must put objects that are not THE object back in the sock etc but that’s about it.
Theme
Ha! No.
Setup
Put things in two socks and put a spinner down. That is all.
Components
I’d rather see a shuffled deck of cards or an app, than a spinner.
The socks are nice but by the Sunday at UK Games Expo they were threading a little bit. I doubt your copy will get that much play over 3 days as the demo copy did but still.
The bits in the sock are cool. There is a lot of overlap with shape to other pieces. There are also things like elastic bands that hinder your finger movement which is a clever touch. It’s tight enough in there without wrapping your fingers together.
Ease of Teaching & Accessibility
Clearly very easy to teach and very accessible.
The Sock Game Summary
So while the game is clearly very simple there are some things to keep in mind.
The tight space you have your hand in combined with the similarity of some of the objects makes it quite difficult. One of the things you’re asked to get is a cube. But there are 3 colours of the cube so how many will you find before you find the right colour?
The spinner has blank spaces for your own objects or even rules. There are also rules on the spinner such as using your ‘other’ hand.
It is fun as any of these party-style games are but for how long? So the question is, will the novelty wear out before the socks do?
