Snow Tails Board Game First Impression
Snow Tails involves racing and subtle weaving through trees…
You know? Just go through them!
Snow Tails is set in the snowy world of the Arctic Circle, where brave sledders compete in a test of skill and endurance. Action is fast and furious and not all sleds may make it to the finish. Huskies only have one setting and that is full speed! Hang on to your furs, the reins, your sled and anything else you can get hold of.
This is a brief overview of the rules followed by my final thoughts.
Snow Tails Summary
I love a good racing game. Thunder Ally is one of my favourites and relates to Snow Tails as it’s a hand-management game too.
I would say it’s more complex though. Perhaps Jamaica is a better comparison? That’s lighter and easier to play well. There is also a bit of hand management there. You’re also programming two actions.
But for me, Flamme Rouge is the closest. In Snow Tails, you need to manage two dogs. In Flamme Rogue you have 2 bikes and I know they’re separate but they still need to act as one for your team.
You need to control both to prevent your decks from filling up with those fatigue cards in the same way you need to avoid your hand filling up with dents.
This game is OK. It’s fun to balance the sleigh even if you’re restricted by a hand limit of 5. A hand limit reduced by dent cards which to be fair, you shouldn’t want to get anyway.
It’s satisfying working out your balance so that you weave through dangers and turn around corners economically. I mean, I just ploughed through trees and swung around corners and got lucky. But still, I’m sure it’s good to do it ‘right’.
But I won so, who’s to say which is the right thing to do? 🙂
