In Lancaster, you’re going to want to control counties, fight France, legitimise laws and construct castles.
Also, look after your Squires and Nobles.
In 1413, the new king of England, Henry V of Lancaster, has ambitious plans: The unification of England and the conquest of the French crown! Each player takes the role of an ambitious aristocratic family. Who will be the best supporter of this young king, and the most powerful Lord of his time?
Lancaster Summary
There are loads of worker placement games and when I think about them I like them. But, at the time of writing, I don’t own any. I have worker placement-style games that are more closely related to action selection.
Argent: the Consortium is one of my favourite worker placement games but is obviously very different. It has a fantasy theme for starters but it has the worker displacement action. If you place a Red Mage you can ‘damage’ an opponent’s mage sending them to the Infirmary, and taking their space.
The worker placement system is really good. You can get bumped off a space which is annoying but fine. You have to make sure the value you place on that space is enough for you to get it.
It’s almost like an auction, but you lose some of your bid if someone out ‘bids’ on you. Now normally, I would not like this but in the game, it works.
You get your Knight back to play it again so you can still take an action so you don’t feel like you’re completely lost out.
The laws that you vote into play are great too. There is so much you can do here tactically and gameplay-wise. I would love to see this system in another game.
It is a fairly standard Euro and I would really like to see some of these concepts in a more modern style of game.
