Handycon 3 Games Played

A brief review of the game I played at Handycon 3.

Zoo Ball

A dexterity game with a sports theme, you need to outscore your opponents.

This is a game that’s been on my wishlist since I saw a preview of it on BoardGameGeek at Origins 2017.

This is the first chance I had to play it so is it now on my ‘To Buy’ list? Or have I forgotten about it completely?

Nightlancer

Nightlancer is a competitive cyberpunk game set in the unique dystopian future of 2099 Birmingham.

Equip your Nightlancer from the black market and attempt one of several thematic missions while avoiding heat and gaining prospects.

This is a look at a version of the game still in development.

Fantastic Gymnastics

One of the few games that makes everyone go “oooooOOOOO, Awww”

Use timing and coordination to spin the guy then launch him in the air to land on his feet. It’s impossible I tell you!

Watch me fail to get going, then fail to land it multiple times…

Click Clack Lumberjack

Another classic game that I finally got to play thanks to Handycon

Hit wood with an axe to remove the bark without knocking over the jenga-esque tree structure.

Watch how heavy-handed and reckless I am!

Sticky Chameleons

Saw this at Essen, looked fun but I didn’t bother playing it.

Flick a sticky rubber tongue at a table to grab a particular tile first. But put it on the table quickly or get whipped by the other players!

I FINALLY found MY game! I am UNBEATABLE at this!

Dr. Eureka

Very simple games… A game so quick and fun that I forgot to hit record on my camera and this is why this is in writing with images from Board Game Geek 🙂

Each player has 3 test tubes each with 2 balls of the same colour in each. Then a card is flipped and it all kicks off!

The cards have a pattern that you need to match in the tubes and you’re trying to be the first to do it.

The player can only use their tubes to move the balls around. If a ball falls out or a player touches one of their balls with the finger they are out of the round until a new one begins.

The pattern can be matched if you turn one or more of the tubes upside down too!

The first player to match the pattern shouts “Eureka!” (Obviously) and after the players check to make sure it’s correct then they keep the card as a point. If it’s wrong, play continues and that player forfeits this point.

After a point, all tubes are returned upright but all balls stay where they were and a new round begins

The first player to 5 points wins.

Positives

Very fun a frantic. I love these “Less haste, more speed… but more Haste!” type games. Winning is VERY satisfying, lose and well… you’ll get the next one.

It’s very tense but in a good way, tipping balls from one tube to another is difficult enough as it is. They’re not very big and the light tubes combined with heavy balls and a tight fit in the top means you have to be really delicate.

The asynchronous start to each round is clever. Resetting each round would get boring but it’s nice to have each player think differently to solve the same puzzle each round.

Excellent production quality.

Negatives

I like my fillers in small boxes, this is quite a large one.

Summary

A very fun game worth breaking out at any time.

Top-a-Top Family

So this is a most unusual game…

A disk is flipped with an action on it into the middle of the table, do that action first or throw/roll/blow your disk closest to it to get a point.

Everyone who has seen this video ‘NOSE’ I wasn’t very good at this.

Coconuts

Some games are fun, some are FUN

Flick Coconuts* over a Monkey’s head into a cup to claim it, or aim at your opponent’s cups to steal!

Watch me dominate as I played at Handycon.

*It’s clearly Poo, you’re throwing Poo

Dancing Eggs

A game about Eggs that comes in an egg box. But it’s not about dancing.

Roll a die and fight over an Egg… TO THE DEATH! Then keep hold of it, most eggs wins.

Well, maybe not to the death, but if you have nails you may cause some damage!

Hop!

Read my Hop! review.

A beautifully produced game of catch.

Throw a Hoop in one of many different ways and bet on if another player will catch it, again, in one of many different ways.

Check out those minis and the cloud board, it’s awesome!
