Trickerion: Legends of Illusion is a Euro game with a Magic theme.
A whole lot of beige…
Players take on the roles of rival stage illusionists, each with their own strengths and characteristics. They are striving for fortune and fame in a competition hosted by a legendary magician, looking for a successor worthy of the mighty Trickerion Stone, which is fabled to grant supernatural power to its owner.
I’ll be honest here… I played Trickerion: Legends of Illusion 12 hours into a game day quite late at night for me so I was VERY tired. Not only didn’t pick up the rules well enough, or take pictures… I didn’t do too well 🙂
I also don’t remember too much, so this will be a fun read!
Overview
In this, you play a Magician… You’re going to go out and get resources, to make tricks, to put on shows to score points. (or Fame or whatever it is)
Overall, It looks nice and has that 19th Century feel to it but it is quite browny beige, but it’s fine.
The way you put out workers is very nice. You have cards that relate to the sections on the board. and you also have a few workers of different types. You, your regular workers and potentially an Assistant. Every Magician needs an assistant.
You assign a card to a worker face down and reveal it simultaneously, In turn order, you put that worker on any space in the area of the card assigned to it.
The workers have a different number of action points and each space has a requirement of actions. Some may need 3 just to do something once for example.
That was probably my favourite part and it worked very well. You can buy cards that have effects in those areas which were cool. Also, I had a player power that could copy these purchased extras which were fun.
There is a catchup type of thing where you buy advertising to get victory points. If you’re last you get to do it first but you pay less than if you’re first. I assume this is advertising agencies charging more for the popular Magicians to put up a billboard. Good idea.
Trickerion: Legends of Illusion Summary
Everything else is pretty generic, even putting on shows wasn’t a big thrill. There’s a thing where you get a bonus if you match a symbol when adding a trick to a show… Possibly showing how that trick fits in the show well? Not sure, it’s weird.
But, as I said I was VERY tired and not really into it and it deserves to be played properly.
I think I’d like it if I was awake 🙂
