Monopoly Gamer is Monopoly but not as we know it.
This one is fun, silly and takes less than an hour.
It’s the Monopoly game with a Nintendo twist as it joins forces with beloved Nintendo video game characters. Instead of standard Monopoly tokens, the game features Super Mario characters, each with their own special powers within game play. Play as Mario, Princess Peach, Yoshi, or Donkey Kong. Finish the game by defeating Bowser at the end!
This is an overview of the game along with my positives and negatives.
TL:DR A simple and quicker game of Monopoly where players attack each other as they buy properties and make deals.
Monopoly Gamer Update August 2018
I do feel sorry for Monopoly. It has a bad name MOSTLY based on bad house rules and dysfunctional families 🙂
When played to the correct rules and played correctly a game can be done in 45 minutes.
OK, so it’s a little random and the game CAN go on a bit. This is true. I don’t get angry for someone not trading with you. I understand being angry if someone is overly cocky when collecting your rent 🙂
A combination of Roll & Move and Player Elimination leaves it feeling a little old.
But what I’m trying to say is, especially given its importance in the hobby, it doesn’t deserve the bad name. It got so many people into board gaming that it should be held up as an example, not put down.
This solves a lot of the issues.
There is a definitive end to the game. It lasts a number of times people pass go so that’s good. It’s bright, silly and random so you don’t feel victimised. There is a clear leader a lot of the time so if you’re targeted it’s because you’re winning.
It’s still Monopoly though and personally, it doesn’t have an equal. Nothing has that nostalgic feeling of moving around the board, going to jail etc Of course if I want to move minis on a board and attack other players I’ll play Arcadia Quest.
However, I didn’t keep the game, but only because there is a Monopoly Gamer Mario Kart version I’ll get one day instead 🙂
