I generally don’t get to play 2 player games like Hanamikoji, but when I do I usually enjoy them…
But what about this one?
This is an overview of the game along with my positives and negatives.
Hanamikoji Update August 2018
I still remember this game fondly despite not playing it again in the last 10 months. The problem is 2 player games are pretty much a no-go for me. I just never fit them in on a game day and don’t schedule deliberate 2 player time with people.
In that time, as far as I’m aware, I’ve played 2: Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire and Holmes: Sherlock & Mycroft. Both are very good and with organised play, Shadespire is easier to get played regularly.
But a lot of 2 player games are really good. So it’s a shame that it has to be like this I think. I just don’t think I would like to schedule a 1v1 game for a game day. I’ll have to take it and see if the opportunity arises to play it naturally. But I don’t want to do that.
But this game is very fun too. It’s very simple with just the 4 actions, but using them well to take control of the Geisha cards is pretty tough. There is mostly open information so you know what to do to win.
The artwork is great too. Hanamikoji has very detailed pictures on the cards and each one looks fantastic. It makes it look great on the table.
It’s also a small box game and cheap. So it is one of those you can take to a gameday despite what I said earlier 🙂 It’s even small enough to stick in a deck box and put in your bag…
So maybe I’m wrong, maybe this IS a game I can take to a gameday and hope for the opportunity to play it?
