“My desire to exit the game is greater than my desire to remain in it.”
~ Barry Sanders
Everyone meant to use the cabin only as a shelter for the night, but come the morning the door has been secured by a combination lock, with no one knowing the combination of numbers that will let them leave. The windows are barred as well. An enigmatic spinning code dial and a mysterious book is all that you have to go on. Can you escape from this abandoned cottage?
I recently played Unlock! and really enjoyed it, Exit is a similar sort of thing, however, you’re destroying components. (Which, BTW, does NOT make it a Legacy game!!! :))
It’s a puzzle escape room game but this one comes with a book full of things to look at.
The gameplay itself is built around a dial that works out like a decoder.
You’ll have a card with a picture of the room you’re in and next to things in the room will be symbols which you’ll get clues for to solve puzzles. The symbol will be near a thing you’re trying to figure out such as a locked door etc
Answers
You’ll end up, after deduction, with 3 ‘Answers’ which will be either colours or numbers or something relevant to the story.
Line them up with the symbol on the decoder and it’ll give a number… Find that number card. That card isn’t the answer but a cheat/mistake prevention mechanism.
The card will then ask you where you saw this clue in the room card to make sure you’re in the right place.
That will lead to another card, this will either be correct and tell you which cards to find to continue the story… Or it’ll be wrong and you’ll get a red X
You also have help cards. What’s on them? No idea never used them 😉
At the end, you get a star rating depending on how many clues you used and how long it took to complete.
My Results…
The Abandoned Cabin – 10 Stars
The Secret Lab – 8 Stars
The Pharoh’s Tomb – 10 Stars
Exit: The Game (Spoiler Free) Positives
Great gameplay. Again, it’s similar to Unlock! so if you like this kinda thing you’ll love it. I personally prefer to play this spending the time rather than spending clues and luckily my groups so far have agreed.
Great stories, excellent components and very nice puzzles. They’re very different and require tearing, folding and cutting so the game is only one use.
It’s Cheap at £13 a game and we split it 5/6 ways. So far I’ve spent £6.50 on 200 minutes of VERY enjoyable gameplay. So even though there is no resell value and it’s only a one-shot game, it’s still good value.
Exit: The Game (Spoiler Free) Negatives
One shot game, leaves you wanting more.
Summary
Excellent game and I’m looking forward to playing more in this series.
