Having played Arkham Horror I knew I liked this theme in Elder Sign.
Not a fan of this one though.
It is 1926, and the museum’s extensive collection of exotic curios and occult artifacts poses a threat to the barriers between our world and the elder evils lurking between dimensions. Gates to the beyond begin to leak open, and terrifying creatures of increasing strength steal through them. Animals, the mad, and those of more susceptible minds are driven to desperation by the supernatural forces the portals unleash. Only a handful of investigators race against time to locate the eldritch symbols necessary to seal the portals forever. Only they can stop the Ancient One beyond from finding its way to Earth and reducing humanity to cinders.
Far too much luck, not enough depth and was way too easy.
I didn’t even take any pictures while playing…
They played it on Tabletop, just watch that :-p
Elder Sign Update 19/05/2018
So I didn’t have much to say about at the time right? 🙂
One of the reasons for this is that someone wanted to play it EIGHT PLAYER, had an UNPUNCHED copy AND had to teach the game out of the rulebook because AFTER we all sat down he told us he hadn’t read it yet…
It was slow and took ages. But, I don’t think this game would be for me anyway.
The game says “A clever and thematic dice mechanism pits their exploration against monsters and the sheer difficulty of staying sane and healthy” but you just match symbols right?
Games like Age of War do it better and easier, FUSE and Flatline do it real time. If I wanted a more in-depth dice game I would MUCH rather play Bora Bora or The Oracle of Delphi.
So unless a game of this theme means more to you than me, I’d try one of the MANY other options.
