Chronicles of Crime Tutorial Solo Playthrough

Chronicles of Crime is a cooperative game of crime investigation, mixing VR experience and board gaming.

This is my full solo playthrough of the tutorial of Chronicles of Crime. So, spoilers for the tutorial of Chronicles of Crime. You can still play it and get a slightly different story depending on the choices you make as you play. But, the motive, killer and weapon will be spoilt. I do not spoil anything outside of the tutorial.

Summary

When looking at similar games the first game that came to mind is Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective. The way you go to different locations and speak to different people, each with a penalty is very similar.

There are also the questions at the end of the game to make sure you’ve learned enough and done it right 🙂

It also gives me the feeling of an escape game. Purely because you’re solving puzzles to get to an end goal. I think a couple of years ago I would not have thought this while playing but now there are so many they’re at the front of my mind.

The electronic element has a sniff of Unlock! about it. But like I said, this isn’t a direct comparison, just a feeling while playing 🙂

The game itself is really fun. You go to a location, see a VR/Panoramic view of a location and pick up clues. Then you dig through a deck of cards looking for relevant things to scan to look at the clues.

You also have the specialists to contact and the locations to visit. It will probably get quite hectic 🙂 It does start to take up a lot of table space as those location cards are quite wide!

But you can’t just spam these cards. Like Consulting Detective there is a timer that ticks when you do something. I’m not sure if you can lose a game via this timer, I’m sure in some scenarios this will be the case. But you’ll want to not waste time to get a decent score.

But you’ll also not want to just ‘get it other with’. This can be a difficult balance.
