Another year, another trip to Harrogate for AireCon 2020.
It just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
AireCon is a friendly and inclusive analog gaming festival in Harrogate Convention Centre. Whether you’ve come alone or with a massive group you’ll find plenty of fun to be had and new friendly faces to meet.
If you’ve never been before, here is a video I made from earlier this year that sums it up pretty well. But if you don’t like videos here are the key points:
- Safe and Inclusive
- Family-friendly, with a family area
- Plenty of opening gaming
- Gaming Library
- Loads of vendors/publishers
- Different food options
- Brings & Buy
I’ve also included micro-reviews of the games I played while I was there in the video.
Airecon 2020 Review
But, for those of you that don’t like the video, here are written reviews of those games with a little more detail.
Arlukkachase
A fun and fast 1 vs many party game using cards.
Banana Battle
A quick speed game that involves using your hands and making noises.
Circulari
A medium-weight euro game of mining in space.
Houses of Knowledge
A set collection game of running a museum.
Librium
A well-made dexterity game.
Overstocked
A quick area control game of stocking 90’s toys in a warehouse.
War of the Nine Realms
A skirmish game set in Norse Mythology.
Summary
If you’ve never been is worth checking out. If you’ve been to the UK Games Expo or Essen Spiel this is much more relaxed and less crowded.
I’ve mentioned this a lot but opening gaming and playing strangers games with strangers just isn’t for me. In the same way, demoing games with strangers at publishers (which I do like) isn’t for everyone.
On top of the stuff I mentioned earlier, there is also an RPG area, tournaments, panels, competitions, quiet areas as well as mental health assistance.
Something for everyone.
