Welcome to Centerville First Impressions

Welcome to “Welcome to Centerville”. The world’s best laid out City.

Roll dice Yahtzee style to control areas and collect sets.

Centerville abstractly models the growth and management of a small city — perhaps not unlike the one you’re in right now.

Players act as entrepreneurs, tycoons, politicians, and other local movers and shakers working to develop a modern urban area. Fortunes will be made and fame will rise. As time goes by, personal milestones will enrich the players even further.

Welcome to Centerville Review

My first impressions of Welcome to Centerville including a brief overview of gameplay followed by my positives and negatives and final summary.

Update August 2018

So this is another one of those games that I don’t remember all too well. 🙂 I know I like it and I remember the gist of what to do but I don’t remember the minutia. Good job I made a video huh? 🙂

This is quite complex for a dice-rolling game. Mostly games like this, with custom dice, are light. King of Tokyo light.

Not always obvious but I can’t think of too many others off the top of my head. Nations the Dice Game? But again, that’s not heavy heavy. Not that Welcome to Centerville is either, it’s medium-light. There is a lot going on but none of it is too complex and the dice restrict what you can do anyway so you’re not overwhelmed turn after turn.

Welcome to Centerville Board

Looking back and looking at my video I remember liking the game. We played it with two players and 4 players might have a lot of downtime. However, I would give it a go but I feel I would regret it and have to get my phone out outside of my turn..

I guess most people would like something a little more deterministic in their city-building-style games? But I like that I get what I’m given and I have to do the best I can with it.

Having multiple areas around the board helps with this. Your initial roll can determine how you focus that round and you can re-roll accordingly.

So a little fiddly, but a good game all the same.
