Diesel Demolition Derby First Impressions

What happens when you carefully choose a killer robot to do battle in the Arenas of the Diesel Demolition Derby?

Draft cards and choose wisely as you battle players in motorised arena combat!

Behind hidden alleys and in dark basements, a new underground league of robot combat has begun. Engineers bring their latest creations to the arena, and battle with each other for money, glory, and power!

This is an overview of the game along with my positives and negatives of the game and the Arenas expansion.

TL:DR Players draft robots and play them to try and remove opponents played robots to have the most power at the end of the round all while respecting the rules of the current Arena.

So drafting then playing a card has been done. 7 Wonders obviously. But with this, the card pool is much smaller, so more predictable.

I don’t mean that in a bad way! I mean you know what COULD happen and what will probably happen. You know cards to play now and cards that are safe to pass.

That’s always the good thing about drafting. You have this pool of cards, you know them all, you’ve even seen some. In full drafting games, you won’t know what’s left. But in games like this, you do know and can work out what’s coming.

The way the bots interact with each other is fun. Only a couple of them are safe after being played, that you know of. The big ones are the ones worth the most and so easy to lose. The smaller ones aren’t worth much. Those in the middle? Well, they’re tough to keep in play too, but not impossible.

There’s a good balance that means you need to play a whole wide spread of cards.

Summary

These are a must for me. these add an effect every round and change the game up. You can play one every other round to break it up a bit. Either way, they’re really good.
