Xia: Legends of a Drift System First Impressions

In Xia: Legends of a Drift System, I found my ship just isn’t big enough.

Neither is the table.

Players fly their ships about the system, completing a variety of missions, exploring new sectors and battling other ships. Navigating hazardous environments, players choose to mine, salvage, or trade valuable cargo. Captains vie with each other for Titles, riches, and most importantly Fame.

The most adaptive, risk-taking, and creative players will excel. One captain will rise above the others, surpassing mortality by becoming Legend!

Everyone starts off with a little ship, each with a different ability.

Xia: Legends of a Drift System Basic Ship

Like the blurb says, you fly around the board, discovering new tiles and completing missions. The goal is to score X points and how you do that is up to you.

You can complete missions, upgrade your ship, kill things, and even roll a 20 at any time when a die roll is required. All of these things give you points.

As you expand, the board gets pretty big and travelling around takes a bit longer. But you also upgrade your ship and are able to move faster so the game actually speeds up rather than slows down towards the end.

When you upgrade your ship you also have more room for equipment which means you can get bigger and better guns, engines and shields. You can also hold more cargo.

More importantly, you get a special ability of that ship as well as keeping the ability of your previous ship.

Xia: Legends of a Drift System Summary

While it’s not my kind of game it is pretty good. The components are fantastic and the metal coins give it that added something.

Xia: Legends of a Drift System Money

There are obvious comparisons to Firefly The Board Game, but I’m not really a fan of either.

It’s not that they’re bad, it’s just not my type of game. I would play them, but I wouldn’t ask to play them.

But, Xia is a very pretty well-balanced game that would be a good buy if you like space-themed games like this.
