Spy Club Card Game First Impressions

Spy Club has you flipping cards and moving them around trying to collect a set of 5.

Initially not interesting, then I played it!

“We could start a Spy Club,” suggested Beatrice. “You know — search for clues and try to find mysteries to solve!”

Be aware, spoilers for the full game will exist further down the page beyond the ‘Spoiler Alert’ banner once I’ve played the full game!

This is a spoiler-free look at the first adventure in the box followed by my final summary.

So this is a nice theme. Just kids playing as detectives and in my experience, not doing it very well 🙂

Remember when Dead of Winter had a poll to determine the theme of the next game in the series? There were cool options like a ‘Summer Camp’ etc and the boring population picked ‘Space‘… Because Space is such a rare theme…

I wonder if these are the same people that complain about Zombies, Trains and Cthulu? 🙂

So it’s nice to have a theme that isn’t the same thing done over and over.

Spy Club Game

As this is the Spoiler-Free section I am writing this with NO knowledge of the campaign. But if the rest of the game is as good as the first one I’ll be very happy. Hopefully, it’s replayable too… I have no idea and don’t want to know right now.

The mysterious campaign is what sold me on the game when I watched the game overview from BGG at Origins this year.

It’s a simple co-op with basic mechanisms around really nice components and artwork but the game just works…

So on to the campaign. This is the last stop before spoiler-ville so you’ve been warned!

Spy Club Campaign Summary

Once I’ve played a full campaign the video will show here 🙂

UPDATE: I never get campaign games finished and this was no different! I did enjoy the bit I played and the campaign looked fun but I tried solo and I’m not much of a solo gamer.
